How does your campaign get the most from the social community you have labored to create through Facebook and Twitter? You need to make each interaction meaningful and great experience so supporters will keep coming back. But there's another more important & harder to do side to this story

You need to figure out how you infuse elements in the process that bring some “value” to the campaign – things that can turn the social asset into a strategic asset.  Here are a few ideas we have to maximize the opportunity of an online social community.

ENGAGE: which means listen as much as you talk. “Listening tours” are popular but they only work if they are real and not just a gimmick.  The more you demonstrate that you’re open to listening the more open your supporters will be and the more trusting and comfortable they will become.  “Comfortability” is an important attribute to have for newscasters and politicians - develop, nurture, and protect it.

ENCOURAGE: get a dialogue going between your supporters. If you can get members ‘sharing’ the why of their support for you then it will help solidify overall support in the community by reinforcing the “rightness” of the decision to support and it will give valuable ammunition to supporters when they have to deal with objections from those outside your “fan base.”  Get key workers to start threads on topics of interest and issues that they care about.

In a couple of days we'll share a couple more of our 5 "Ns" of social community success ideas. Please come back.
